Electrocardiogram Technician Program in El Cajon, Ca
Due to the difficulty and speed of this course, the Medical Assistant program must be completed prior to enrollment. Programs from other colleges or prior medical experience may be used to fulfill the prereq with approval from the admissions department.
This Electrocardiogram Technician training course prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians and nurses, to administer EKG and ECG diagnostic examinations and report results to the treatment team. This includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology, the cardiovascular system, medical terminology, cardiovascular medications and effects, patient care, EKG and ECG administration, equipment operation and maintenance, interpretation of cardiac rhythm, patient record management, and professional standards and ethics. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the national certification exam.
Successful completion of this course will lead to credit towards our
Medical Assistant Associate of Applied Science Degree program.
This course may lead to a national certification with the National Center for Competency Testing.
This course provides an overview of the human body. It introduces students to the structure, function, and diseases of the human body. It also introduces students to related terminology used in the clinical settings to describe body positions and parts. Emphasis will be on cardiovascular system.
This course introduces the student to medical terminology as they relate to the anatomical structure of the
human body. Introduction to body system root words, prefixes, suffixes and introductory terminology. Emphasis is on cardiovascular system terminology. Medical language and accepted medical abbreviations related to electrocardiograms.
This course provides comprehensive instruction on electrocardiographs, characteristics of normal electrocardiogram rhythms, procedure and quality assurance protocol. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the national certification exam.
