FTTX
- FIBER TO THE PREMESIS
|
|
The telecommunication services delivered to the home have
always been limited by the narrow bandwidth that copper
wires can provide. In order to provide state of the art
services to homes and businesses, phone companies are now
undertaking major overhauls to replace the old copper wires
with fiber. This new frontier in fiber optics is called FTTX.
All courses/seminars are eligible for DoD, corporate and other tuition assistance programs.

|
In this course students will explore the different designs
grouped as “fiber to the x” such as:
- Fiber to the Home
- Fiber to the Business
- Fiber to the Curb
They will also learn:
- Why FTTx is being implemented today, including
technical, marketing and financial justifications.
- The types of FTTx architectures being used, advantages
and disadvantages of each and types of components
required.
- Technical details of specialized FTTx components like
splitters and wavelength-division multiplexers and
requirements for cables, connectors, splices and
hardware.
- Design and installation requirements particular to FTTx.
|
 |
A hands-on lab will familiarize students with
connectorization, testing and troubleshooting FTTx links
as well as the specialized safety requirements of FTTx.
The course can be used to either train installation
technicians already familiar with fiber optic
installation as well as other personnel in support
roles, including customer service.
Successful completion of the course and industry
recognized exam may lead to certification as a Certified
FTTx Technician (CFXT).
Prerequisites:
CFOT certification (understanding of basic fiber optics,
components, installation practice, testing) |
