ADVANCED FIBER OPTICS INSTALLATION TECHNOLOGY
Becoming a successful Fiber Optics Technician takes practice and with the Advanced Fiber Optics Installation Technology Course, that’s what you get. With one week packed full of lab training, students get real world experience.

This course is a continuation of concepts and theories learned in Basic Fiber Optics Installation Technology. It is designed to give students a closer look at cable types and splicing as well as intensive hands on learning with industry standard equipment. Students will be introduced to function and use of an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) as used for fiber optics testing. TIA/EIA 568-B.3 standards for Fiber optic cables will be thoroughly emphasized and discussed in course.

All courses/seminars are eligible for DoD, corporate and other tuition assistance programs.

Topics also include:

  • Basic Fiber Optics Review

  • Fiber Optics Lab Safety

  • Cable Installation and Hardware

  • Introduction and theory related to using an OTDR

  • Cable Installation for Patch Panels and Fan Out Kits

  • Fiber Optic Restoration using both Mechanical and fusion splicing techniques IAW TIA/EIA 568-B.3 Performance Testing Procedures.

Successful completion of this course and an industry recognized exam may lead to certification as an Advanced Fiber Optics Technician (AFOT).

Prerequisites:
CFOT certification (understanding of basic fiber optics, components, installation practice, testing)
