About Us

Advanced Training Associates - Who are we?

Advanced Training Associates has been providing career-oriented education in the San Diego area and across the United States since 1998. We are accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). We are approved to participate in Federal Financial Aid programs by the Department of Education for students who qualify. We are a Department of Defense (DoD) contractor for vocational education. Your military Tuition Assistance and Veterans Benefits can be used at Advanced Training.

Our campus is located in El Cajon, California. This is in east San Diego County in southern California. We also hold classes near U.S. military bases across the United States and around the world.

We have long-term courses such as Medical Assisting and Information Technology for students entering new career fields. We also have short-term seminar courses for fields such as Radio Operation and Repair Technology and Fiber Optic Technology for students wishing to advance their present careers both in and out of the military.

Glossary

Administrative Medical Assistant (Administrative Medical Assisting):

An Administrative Medical Assistant is responsible for clerical and administrative duties in medical offices and hospitals. They perform many administrative duties, including answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients’ medical records, filling out insurance forms, ordering supplies, handling correspondence, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping.

Database Administrator:

A Database Administrator is responsible for managing computer systems that store organized data used by businesses and other organizations. This data may be customer or inventory information for businesses, patient information for hospitals as well as driver and vehicle information for a state department of motor vehicles. The Database Administrator primary job is usually to design, develop and manage the database structure and the interfaces that people use to access the data.

Information Technology (Information Systems Technology):

Information Technology covers many aspects of computer technology from installing programs to designing complex computer networks and information databases. Typical jobs in information technology are Computer/Network Support Technician, Computer Network Administrator, Database Administrator and Web Developer.

Intranet:

An intranet is a private computer network. However, the term "intranet" usually means a private network that resembles the Internet. It will have one or more web servers that are accessed via web browsers, the same way most people access the Internet. A business or other organization will use the internal web sites on an intranet to deliver information to employees, consultants and other people within the organization. 

Medical Assistant (Medical Assisting):

Medical assistants perform the administrative and clinical tasks that keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running smoothly. A medical assistant may perform duties that cover a wide variety of other specialized jobs in a hospital of medical office, such as those of an Administrative Medical Assistant, Medical Insurance Biller, Medical Secretary or Medical Receptionist.

Administrative duties may include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient's medical records, filling out insurance forms, ordering supplies, handling correspondence, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping.

Clinical duties may include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination. Medical assistants may collect and prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments. They instruct patients about medications and special diets, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, authorize drug refills as directed, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy, draw blood, prepare patients for X-rays, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures, and change dressings. Last but not least they serve as direct link and communicator between patient, physician, and other health care professionals whenever there is a need. Medical Assisting is one of fastest growing occupations.

Medical Biller (Medical Billing, Medical Insurance Billing):

Medical billing is the process of submitting and following up on claims to insurance companies in order to receive payment for services rendered by a health care provider. The same process is used for most insurance companies, whether they are private companies or government-owned.

Medical Receptionist:

The duties of a Medical Receptionist may include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient's medical records, handling correspondence, greeting patients and scheduling appointments,

Medical Secretary:

A medical secretary provides secretarial support in clinics. Duties are to inform patients of costs and further information resources for care offered. Other duties are to answer telephones, relay messages and greet visitors. Duties depend on instructions and pre-established guidelines from medical staff.

Network Administrator (Network Administration):

A Network Administrator's job is to install and maintain a computer network. This entails installation an maintenance of computer and network hardware and software. A network administrator has to maintain skills in data cabling (copper and fiber optic), hardware operation and maintenance for computers, switches, routers and other network equipment as well as computer operating systems and applications. Typical duties would be maintaining user accounts on network servers, installing software on desktop computers and solving day-to-day problems with computers and networks.

Web Developer (Webmaster, Web Author):

A Web Developer creates and maintains web sites on the Internet and intranets. A Web Developer must maintain a wide variety of skills from artistic skills to create aesthetically appealing web sites as well as several programming languages used to create the sites. A Web Developer may uses tools such as Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe DreamWeaver but will also use languages such as HTML, XML, PHP, SQL, PERL, ASP and JavaScript.
